DP HANOI WELCOMES DELEGATION FROM THE AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY

On the morning of May 15, 2025, at the Association’s office, Ms. ?? Th? Huy?n – President of the Hanoi Association of Persons with Disabilities (DP Hanoi) – hosted a warm and friendly working session with a delegation from the Australian Embassy, led by Ms. Cathy Mc William – First Secretary for Development Cooperation.

In her welcome remarks, Ms. ?? Th? Huy?n provided an overview of the Association’s 19-year journey of formation and development. As an organization of persons with disabilities, DP Hanoi has consistently implemented practical activities to: enhance awareness and capacity among persons with disabilities; promote social inclusion; and raise public understanding of disability-related issues.

From an initial 750 members in 2006, the Association has now grown to over 17,500 members, with 46 affiliated organizations and nearly 200 sub-units at the commune and ward level. Notably, DP Hanoi is the organization of persons with disabilities with a network covering 100% of districts and towns in Hanoi.

Ms. Huy?n emphasized that these achievements are not only the result of internal efforts, but also due to the guidance of government authorities and the support of international organizations, among which the Australian Embassy is a key partner. She emotionally recalled a year-end tea conversation in 2024 with Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski, during which meaningful ideas were exchanged to enhance the participation of persons with disabilities in Vietnam.

In response, Ms. Cathy Mc William shared that although she had only been with the Embassy for five months, she had heard much about DP Hanoi and felt honored to visit and work directly with the Association on this occasion. She acknowledged and highly appreciated the Association’s role in advising and collaborating with the Embassy and development partners in implementing inclusive and disability-sensitive projects.

The meeting took place in a warm and open atmosphere, with much mutual understanding, paving the way for stronger cooperation between the two sides in the future. Both DP Hanoi and the Australian Embassy emphasized: “The inclusion and development of persons with disabilities cannot be separated from the commitment of society as a whole. In this, the connection between DPOs and international partners is of vital importance.”

DP Hanoi hopes to continue receiving attention and support from the Australian Embassy in future programs, aiming toward a barrier-free, inclusive society where all people are respected and empowered — in line with the message: “Leave no one behind.”
